hiking

I am chaperoning a seventh grade hiking trip tommorrow. Max’s class. We are climbing Perrin’s Peak.

Max comes into the kitchen this morning and asks me what I’m going to wear hiking.

“Probably just an orange leotard and a cowboy hat, the weather should be really nice.” You have to throw in a realistic twist to fool them just a little.

“Why do you do this to me?” he asks.

And to coin a phrase that a friend of mine uses in reference to her kids….

“It is your path, my child.”

“Just promise me you’ll wear the cool new running shoes.” he says.

Yes, dear.

Eeee gad, I’m glad I’m not in 7th grade.

Oh gawwwd. I remember that feeling! I used to try to persuade my parents to NOT chaperone any school trips. Once, when I was 13, my dad and I got into a huge fight because he tried to make his way onto the dance floor at a soccer team function. I was mortified!!!! I'm so glad I'm 32 now.
